Where Are Termites Found In The United States?
The greatest likelihood of having termites in or near your home is in the South where there is the greatest concentration of termites as well as the greatest number of termite species. Termites like warm and mild climates so it’s perhaps not surprising that you will find them more readily in southern states.
In the very southern states along the border with Mexico, you will find subterranean, Formosan, and drywood termites. Just north of that, a band that reaches from Northern California across the whole United States including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and up to North Carolina is home to subterranean and Formosan termites. Most of the rest of the country is inhabited by subterranean termites. In the very northernmost states and along the Rocky Mountains, there isn’t much termite activity.
Nine states with the highest termite activity are in the South, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. California and Hawaii are the other states where termite activity is highest.
