Schedule Today!What Are Pharaoh Ants?
Pharaoh ants are small ants—about 1/16 of an inch in length. They are light yellow to red in color, with black markings on their abdomen. Their tiny stature allows them access to many places, both inside and outside your home. They are found throughout the United States and are considered one of the most, if not the most, difficult pests to control indoors.
Are Pharaoh Ants Dangerous?
Pharaoh ants are a non-native ant species that have traveled to the United States from Madagascar. Pharaoh ants do not bite, but they are otherwise destructive and possibly dangerous to your property. These tiny ants live in super colonies that include thousands of queens that propagate by the millions. Once they have set up a colony, they can be particularly difficult to eradicate.
If you find any food infested by pharaoh ants, get rid of it immediately as pharaoh ants can spread salmonellosis and dysentery.
What Do Pharaoh Ants Do?
Pharaoh ants are quite the opportunists. They will take any advantage to come near your food, whether it be an outdoor picnic or in your home. Any spill, crumb, morsel, grease stain, sweet drink or even dead pests will attract the pharaoh ant. They feed off of sugary foods and proteins like honey and peanut butter in your pantry, but will also infest locations that have no known food sources present like the plumbing within the walls of your home.
As incredible opportunists, and tiny ones at that, pharaoh ants will come inside your home through tears in window screens, opening in the seals of your doors and windows and any other tiny crack they can find including the cracks in walls, foundations and outdoor siding.
