Roaches In The Home
No one wants to find a roach in their home, but at least typically they are easy to see. Of the thousands of species of cockroaches that exist around the world, only 55 of those species can be found in the United States and only about 5 species will come into your home. Most of these species are large and can be easily spotted if in your home. If you find one in your home it is not always a sign of a larger infestation. If you come across one baby roach in your home, it’s a different story altogether.
Seeing cockroach babies in your home could be the sign of a serious problem that needs to be addressed quickly. Baby roaches are a major indicator that roaches have taken up residence in your home and made it a breeding ground.
What Do Baby Cockroaches Look Like?
Baby cockroaches vary in size depending on what species of cockroach they are and where they are in their life cycle. There are 4 cockroach species that you might find in your home including, the American, Oriental, German, brown-banded and smokybrown varieties. Each of these species of cockroach has three developmental stages: egg, nymph and adult. So what you may be finding in your home are cockroach nymphs. While each species of nymph will be different in size, they will all go through molting where the shed their hard, exterior exoskeleton. After molting, a nymph will look white or gray in color with a soft body until their new exoskeleton completes its formation at which time a nymph roach of any species will look much like an adult roach but smaller and don’t have wings. They will reach full adulthood after a few months.
Should I Be Worried About Baby Cockroach Damage?
Like adult cockroaches, baby roaches can carry bacteria on their bodies which they then can transfer to anything they touch including food, utensils and food preparation surfaces. Baby roach remnants such as molted skins, saliva and waste can trigger allergic reactions in some individuals, particularly those who have respiratory conditions like asthma.
Should I Contact A Pest Control Specialist For Baby Roaches?
The proper and complete removal of roaches can be hard to do on your own. If you are seeing baby roaches, it means that roaches have taken up residence for long enough to breed which can be a sign of a full-blown infestation. Some species of roach, like the German cockroach, is particularly difficult to get rid of because if even the survival of just a few eggs can easily regenerate their pest population quickly. To make sure that you are rid of any current infestation and to properly protect from further infestations you should reach out to a seasoned pest professional to make sure that every possible adult, nymph and egg has been eradicated.
