Schedule Today!Cockroaches and Harm
Cockroaches aren’t dangerous like a venomous snake or spider and they aren’t dangerous like a stinging wasp or a tick that can give you a life-altering disease, but neither are they a benign pest.
Cockroaches spread diseases, carry harmful bacteria, transmit parasitic worms and create and leave allergens in your home that can cause life-threatening reactions. Cockroaches aren’t considered dangerous, but are often considered “dirty” instead. What is the difference in this designation?
How Dirty Are Cockroaches?
Cockroaches in the wild love to inhabit and explore some of the dirtiest places (not places filled with dirt, necessarily, but places filled with disease and bacteria). Cockroaches have been linked to 33 different kinds of bacteria, 6 kinds of parasitic worms, and more than 7 separate types of human pathogens.
Other Ways Cockroaches Can Be Inadvertently Dangerous
Cockroaches can develop a resistance to pesticides that they have been exposed to but not exterminated by. This means that there are some cockroaches you can spray an entire bottle of spray on and they won’t die. In this case, you are at way more risk of the danger, here, because that insecticide can be poisonous to you, your family members and your pets.
Are Cockroaches Dangerous?
While the above are true that cockroaches are something we consider to be dirty and can cause us to cause harm to ourselves, they are far less dangerous than many other insects that also invade our homes. Mosquitos are the world’s deadliest animal, spreading lethal diseases like malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever, and yet we mostly consider them pests. Same goes for bees and wasps who can deliver stings that can cause fatal reactions.
Cockroaches may send chills up your spine and perhaps give you a mild case of food poisoning, but as far as dangerous insects go, they aren’t even on the list.
