Acrobat Ants In The Home

No one wants to find a colony of tiny acrobat ants in their home, lifting up their abdomens up over their heads. Their nests tend to be above ground, and they attack other bugs. But once they are in your home, hurting you with bites, they are a pest that requires a pest control expert’s attention.

Acrobat Ant Facts

Acrobat ants are a common pest in the Southeast. Like carpenter ants, they tend to next in most or rotted wood. In Florida, they are the most dominant arboreal ant in pine forests, tending to live in areas carved out by other bugs and eating their food. The Crematogaster ashmeadi species is native to eastern North America. They tend to be one-eighth to one-fourth of an inch in length. Acrobat ant color ranges from dark brown to red to black.

Acrobat Ant Habitats

Old, rotten wood attracts these ants to come in and feast on other bugs. Acrobat ants most often live in stumps, dead limbs, logs and tree stumps. Rotting decks and wooden fences may also attract nests of these bugs. Outdoor nests are the most common source of infestation. However, if water leaks have caused moist or rotting wood in your home, acrobat ants can nest indoors, commonly in door frames, skylights or soffits.

Should I Contact A Pest Control Specialist For Acrobat Ants?

Acrobat ant infestations can be brought under control by finding and treating the areas where they live in rotten wood. Sometimes, these areas can be high in trees that aren’t easy to reach or treat directly yourself. Limiting access to ant trails is key to getting them under control. If you fix water leaks in your home or improve attic and crawlspace ventilation, it can also prevent infestations.
